Custom Ordering Information and How to Take Your Measurements Correctly!

Right now we are quite booked. Please tell us what you have in mind and we'll let you know if we can meet your deadline requirements.

If you EVER don’t hear back from us, please email again. We would absolutely never knowingly ignore your email! Much to our dismay, the internet does seem to eat the occasional email.

Thank you *so* much for your interest in our bombshell dresses and pinup couture!

The following is the information we need in order to get your custom made item to you quickly, plus the measurement info we need if you are purchasing an item that includes custom fitting.

In order to prepare your measurement info, please 1) read through the instructions here before starting 2) get a helper, a measuring tape, something narrow to tie around your waist and the correct bra as described. 3) Then go through the measurements and fill them in. An error of even 1/2 inch can make a difference, so please take the time to do it correctly. But don't be scared, just be careful. Everything you need is explained here.

After you submit this form to us, we will review it and email you with your total and payment options. (You may start your dress with just a deposit.)

PLEASE DO NOT SEND CHANGES TO THE SIZE (OR DEADLINE) INFORMATION AFTER YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE ORDER!!! This really confuses us and can lead to errors!

Sizing and fitting Section

Please fill in the following only if you are ordering a garment that requires custom-fitting.

Do not pull the tape tight anywhere! Do not order the dress smaller because you like your clothing tight! Do not "add a finger" inside the measuring tape. Just be as accurate as possible.

Ours is a snug fit. Specify in the information box above if you would like the dress cut just a bit more loosely rather than altering your measurements.

Once you have taken 15 minutes or so to put this measurement information together, we keep it on file for you. You only have to do it once.

From then on, you have a dressmaker of Hollywood caliber standing by with some great hard-to-find vintage styles, and all you have to do is contact us to get a dress with a personal *movie star* fit, without the Hollywood price!
( We say this to encourage you to take the 15 minutes needed to carefully assemble the measurement info!)

Your height :
Your bra size, including the cup size :
Around your bust at widest point, as seen in diagram. Your bra size is not the same as your bust measurement!
(Please wear a classic bra for this measurement; not padded, push-up, wonder, minimizer or athletic.)
Around your rib cage, just under your bust, as seen in diagram
Around your midriff, approximately half-way between the underbust and the waist

Waist measurement:

Your waist measurement is not the same as your pants waist! Pants are virtually always worn a bit below your natural waist.

Your back- neck- to- waist measurement is shown in the below information.
Note: If you do not think you are short-waisted or long-waisted and find this measurement confusing, PLEASE CHOOSE from the measurements shown below ("Petite", "Average", etc.)

Petite
Back waist length is 14 1/2”
This will generally fit gals 5” to 5”3” (or 5’4”, if “short- waisted”).

Measuring is the only accurate way to determine this.

It is not a measurement you can do by yourself; you will need a helper.

Or, you can choose, using this chart, based on your height.

Average
Back waist length is 15 1/2”
This is the standard back waist length your would find in an off the rack garment.
The average American woman is 5’4“, but this will generally fit a woman up to
about 5’7”, unless she is “long-waisted”.

Measuring is the only accurate way to determine this.

It is not a measurement you can do by yourself; you will need a helper.

Or, you can choose, using this chart, based on your height.

Tall
Back waist length is 16 1/2”
This will generally fit gals 5”7 to 5”9 unless long- or short-waisted.

(Use the above charts or:) HOW TO DO YOUR OWN BACK TO WAIST MEASUREMENT :

Step 1
Step 2
.
Step 3
Step 4
.
Please do not attempt to lower our placement of the waist seam of your dress by specifying a longer back-waist measurement than what is anatomically accurate for you. That will cause the dress to bunch unattractively at your waist. Instead, if you would like a dropped waist on your dress, consult with us about which styles are suitable for dropped-waists, before ordering.
Step 5

Now! Enter your "Back to Waist Length"!

Does the Back to Waist measurement you entered contradict the size charts and height parameters stated above?  If so, please re-measure.

Tie a string around your waist (or even better- a piece of narrow elastic!) to help in being sure where your waist is in the back. Even professionals use a string to ascertain this; they don't guess. So please take your time- getting this measurement correct makes a big difference in quality of fit. You cannot physically do this measurement by yourself- you need a helper. Be sure you are standing straight and normally.

Your hips/derriere/thighs at widest point

***You will know you have done this measurement correctly if the tape measure will go up and down freely from the point you have identified as "the widest point".

Desired length of skirt, measuring from center back waist straight down to finished length.

(A good standard length for skirts from this era is about 29.5 inches.)

If you order a skirt 27" or less, please write on this form that you want your skirt extra short so we know it is not a typographical error.

To adjust for height we will be happy to make your skirt up to 32" long. For skirts long than this there is a small extra charge.

Once we receive this order request, we will get back to you with a price quote, info about fabric availability, etc. Thanks!
